Bearkadette History
|
|
In the spring of 1968 Jo Ann Peschel and Diana McMichael decided to organize a group of girls for dance performance purposes. Diana had previous experience with a drum and bugle corp. and with her guidance they formed a drill team. The rules and name of the Bearkadettes were decided upon and officers were selected. Soon after that tradition began. The first Colonel of the Bearkadettes was Johnye Henderson and her fellow officers were Susan Franklin, Susan Brunner, Ruth Hardman, Brenda Ross, Opal Beard, Ina Ward and Rosey Malone. There were 19 Bearkadettes.
